Just as with Google, there are many reasons one might have to subpoena records from Facebook. For instance, you can determine the name used to register a account, e-mail addresses used for registration, the IP address associated with account activity, any phone numbers that are associated with the account, and even credit card or PayPal information on file.

Further, just as with Google, if one wants to issue a subpoena for records from Facebook and the subpoena is based out of a state court action in any state other than California, rather than a federal court action, one must have that subpoena domesticated in California.

Per Facebook, “the subpoena must be a valid federal, California or California domesticated subpoena, addressed to and served on Facebook, Inc.”
